D. W. Fenton became the owner of the leasehold estate in the city of Memphis described his lot number 59 in the Navy Yard subdivision on the land were substantial brick buildings of large-size use before and during the early part of the war as a cotton-seed oil mail. This cover was mailed to Fenton cotton oil mills, Navy Yard buildings from Chattanooga in May 1862. Shortly thereafter June 6, 1862 Union military forces took possession of the Navy Yard buildings.
