1794 S.23 R5 Head of 1794 Liberty Cap Large cent, PCGS VG details, code 98 for damage.  We beg to differ.  This is a nice, original coin that should be in a graded holder (probably VG8, but maybe G6 since the PCGS graders are unlikely to understand the strike of an S.23...always weak at the central reverse).  We only have more than 50 years of combined numismatic experience, have bought and sold 100+ million dollars worth of US coins, and have sent close to 100,000 to PCGS for grading, so we have some idea what we're doing.  This coin should have straight graded, and it is very likely to do just that someday.  We tried it only once, and we honestly feel like this is not the final answer.  Are the surfaces perfectly smooth?  No, but they are pretty darn close to smooth.  Are there a few rim bumps?  Yes, but they are small and within normal bounds.  Is the color even and appealing?  Well, yes.  Yes it is.  Are there any real defects?  No.  No there aren't.  While not perfect, the coin is fabulous!  And rare.  Enjoy!
