Description

In the 1950’s, 1960’s and early 1970’s plastic swizzle stir sticks were popular. Nowadays all you get is a straw if you are lucky. Patrons were encouraged to take the swizzles as a way for them to spread the word and advertise the venue.
This lot includes
12 unique Vintage Miami Beach & South Florida swizzle stir sticks
As is typical for South Florida from the 50’s and 60’s the swizzles are flamboyant. Look close as there are swizzles made in a variety of shapes:
The
Doral Beach Hotel
was named for its owner and his wife, Doris and Alfred Kaskel.
The
Fontainbleau
opened in 1954, and today offers 9 dining establishments. In the 50's and 60's one of them was the
Poodle Room.
Bal Harbour Americana
opened in 1956. The 475-room Americana cost million to build and on its opening day commanded the unheard of rate of per day - lol.
The
Latin Quarter
opened in 1940, and burned down in 1959 making this swizzle over 60 years old.
The
Embers
“the glow on the beach” closed in the 70’s
The
Sandbar
restaurant “right on the ocean” at the Silver Springs Motel in Key Biscayne is now closed as are the following:
Jamaica Inn,
Gibby’s,
the
Empress,
the
Commodore Lounge
, the
Biscayne Terrace
, and
Betty’s Lobo Lounge.
These will all continue to appreciate in value.
